Leandro Paredes has been an afterthought at the beginning of the season, and his spell at Roma could end in January, as a move to Boca Juniors is looming. The veteran was a linchpin last year but lost his starting job as former coach Daniele De Rossi instructed the management to go after more dynamic players at the position. He’s been in a constant duel with Bryan Cristante, and the teammate has prevailed most of the time.
Paredes has gotten the nod just twice and has appeared 5 times for a total of 202 minutes, and his salary is too expensive for Roma for him to have a secondary role. He makes €4M annually. Therefore, they’d let him go for free in January if he asked for it.
The Giallorossi paid just €2.5M to sign him from PSG in 2023. He bounced back after a dreadful spell at Juventus, tallying 5 goals and 7 assists in 49 games in 2023/2024. However, the team went in a different direction last summer, signing Manu Koné and Enzo Le Fée; plus, Niccolò Pisilli is breaking out in the same role. He played at Boca Juniors for two seasons before a loan to Chievo Verona and a permanent move to the capital club back in 2025.

The writing is probably on the wall at this point, and it has been a rather sudden fall from grace. Considering the traits of their newcomers, he’s still their only pure ‘regista,’ and they would benefit from using him over Cristante in some matches.
