Francesco Acerbi penned a letter to the Lazio fans to address his blunder and reaction against Milan: “It was a rollercoaster of emotions and frustrations, so I decided to take my time to find the right words to share my thoughts and feelings. I do not expect them to be co-signed but at least comprehended.”
The defender wrote to Corriere dello Sport: “Unfortunately, I have found myself in an unexpected situation in the last few months. I feel alone, and that hurts me. I do not want to point my finger at anybody, but it has impacted me on and off the pitch. Still, my family gives me the balance and serenity to face things head-on. The cliché is that footballers are immune to emotional swings because of their job and how much they earn, but that is not the case.”
Acerbi responded to the attacks by the Lazio faithful: “I have never shied away from my responsibilities, as a man and as a player. I have always accepted the criticism, honors, and obligations that are part of the game. However, I can not tolerate conjectures against my integrity and commitment to this team. I have read absurd things after the Milan match, which I can not stomach. Having to defend my professionality pains me deeply.”
“I am not perfect, nor a robot, but I am a serious and loyal person. That is not debatable. I do not forget every instant of my time with the Biancocelesti. I have received support, esteem, and affection and became the captain, and that will stay with me forever. My future is the next game with Lazio. I hope we can turn the page together and finish the season in the best possible way, with dignity and mutual respect.”
