Atalanta vs Sampdoria 4-0: German Compatriots Run the Show

Match-week 27 of the Serie A ends with a bang as Atalanta demolish Sampdoria 4-0 at the Gewiss Stadium to cruise into fifth place past Roma.

German Duo Shines in First Half

Within the opening minutes of the game, Gasperini’s men were on the front foot as they applied an immense amount of pressure high up the pitch, making it very difficult for the Blucerchiati to exit their zone.

In the fifth minute of play, Remo Freuler intercepted a poorly-taken goal-kick and performed a magnificent one-two with Hans Hateboer out-wide.  The German midfielder distributed a brilliant cross in the box for Mario Pasalic, who dove heroically and headed the ball into the back of the net to hand La Dea the early breakthrough within this vital fixture.

Throughout the first half, Gasperini’s men were relentless and showed no signs of slowing down as they posed a significant threat on the flanks out-wide. Jeremie Boga cut inwards and curled a brilliant shot towards the top corner, which was saved by Wladimiro Falcone. In addition, Hateboer crossed a fine ball into the box for Teun Koopmeiners, whose thunderous header skimmed the post and went wide of the net.

In the 29th minute of play, Matteo Pessina intercepted the ball in the central area of the pitch and played an impressive over-the-top pass for Koopmeiners into space. The Dutch midfielder capitalized on the opportunity and scored a low-driven shot past Falcone into the far low-corner to double Atalanta’s advantage going into the second half.

Super-Sub Miranchuk Provides the Encore

In the second half, Giampolo made a triple substitution in order to potentially shift the tide within his fixture. Throughout the opening minutes, his tactical adjustments paid off as Sampdoria created openings and found Francesco Caputo on several occasions. Unfortunately, the Italian marksman was unable to convert his chances into goals as one of his shots was brilliantly saved by Juan Musso, while his other attempt went out-wide.

As a result, Gasperini’s men took advantage of the Blucerchiati’s missed opportunities and further enhanced their lead. Shortly after coming off the bench for Boga, Aleksey Miranchuk put his mark onto the game as the 26 year-old Russian distributed a well-weighted pass in between the lines for Koopmeiners. The 24 year-old Dutch international performed a magnificent run and tucked the ball into bottom-right corner to make it 3-0.

Within the last minutes of the fixture, Remo Freuler played a brilliant pass for Miranchuk out-wide. The Russian winger glided through Sampdoria’s defense with the use of his incredible dribbling skills and buried the ball into the back of the net to make it 4-0 for La Dea and put the nail on the coffin within this fixture.

Gasperini’s men prepare to head to the capital as they are set to face Roma in a vital fixture in order to keep their hopes of European football next season alive. Meanwhile, Sampdoria will play a high-flying Juventus side at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
