Club President Confirms Striker’s Imminent Transfer to Inter

Porto President Jorge Nuno Pinto removed all doubts over Mehdi Taremi’s imminent switch to Giuseppe Meazza as if Inter fans need additional confirmation. In his recent interview with A Bola via FCInterNews, the Dragons chief executive conceded the Iran international’s departure on a free transfer.

Asked whether Taremi will leave Porto in the coming days, Pinto replied: “I think so. It’s clear he’s already signed for Inter. These things happen at all clubs.”

Pinto also addressed Taremi’s last season at Estadio do Dragao.

The period that he spent here was a very good one,” he continued. “This season has not been the happiest of periods for him. But the path that he’s taken here has been positive overall.

Taremi, approached by Milan last summer, set his heart on joining Inter in January. The Italians struck a verbal agreement with his entourage months ago, rendering the switch a mere formality.

After turning down Milan’s offer 12 months ago, the 31-year-old is ready to link up with Inter on a Bosman deal. It’s a carbon copy of last year’s situation with Marcus Thuram. The Frenchman was one step away from signing for the Rossoneri before turning his back on the agreement at the 11th hour.

Instead, he teamed up with Inter and went on to win the Scudetto in his first season in Serie A. Taremi can only hope to replicate Thuram’s heroics in Italy as he prepares to fill the shoes of outgoing veteran Marko Arnautovic, who bagged a brace in his farewell game against Hellas Verona.
