Coach Gasperini Backs Atalanta to Upset Milan Scudetto Hopes

Atalanta pushed themselves onto the 7th spot in Serie A after staging a late comeback against Spezia at the Stadio Alberto Picco, ending their successive streak of two draws in style. The result keeps them in hope of a continuous appearance in Europe, but Fiorentina still have a game in hand before La Dea visit San Siro for the blockbuster encounter.

Coach Gian Piero Gasperini is enthusiastic about the momentous clash between the Rossoneri and his team, stating that both teams have their contrasting fates in their own hands.

Atalanta seek a top-six finish above Roma and Fiorentina, whereas Milan are playing for the highest possible interest – the Scudetto championship.

“We referees of the Scudetto? We must be our own referees; we need the points for our championship. We will play in Milan against a team that has had an extraordinary championship, it will be a decisive match for both of us in a beautiful setting,” he said, before rallying his team to squeeze out a result: “It is fantastic to play these games. We will have to finish very well to get a result.” (via MilanNews)

Atalanta have 59 points with last two matches of the season remaining, whereas Roma and Fiorentina, who are at 62 and 59 respectively, have an extra game in hand each.
