De Rossi on His Way to Earning New Contract from Roma

Daniele De Rossi had just one stumble versus Inter since taking over Roma and has strong chances of keeping ahold of the Roma bench in the future. Owner Dan Friedkin has pretty much made up his mind about it, but the formalities will arrive only near the end of the season, La Gazzetta dello Sport informed (via Tuttomercatoweb).

The parties will need to negotiate a new contract. The young gaffer accepted a short-term one with no option and a Champions League-related bonus when he was hired to replace José Mourinho. He was supposed to be a temporary solution ahead of a full-fledged coaching search in the summer.

On the other hand, De Rossi has won most matches while leading the Roma dugout and advanced in the Europa League. The Giallorossi are currently alone in fifth place, four points behind the high-flying Bologna.

It doesn’t hurt that the club legend quickly clicked with the higher-ups. Moreover, his side has been playing with a more modern and proactive brand of football. A two-year contract is in the works.

Our Take on Roma and De Rossi

They have racked up wins but also had a pretty easy schedule. The results probably wouldn’t have been much different with Mourinho. On the other hand, their style has been much more appealing, and he freed them of some unnecessary antics. The fact that there has been no buzz about any other coaches is a big hint about what will happen, and rightly so.
