Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini wasn’t particularly pleased with his team’s result against Young Boys but wasn’t very disappointed either.
La Dea started the match well with Duvan Zapata opening the scoring after just ten minutes before Theoson Siebatcheu equalized. Atalanta restored their lead through Jose Palomino early in the second half but found themselves trailing 3-2 after the 84th minute.
However, Luis Muriel came off the bench and salvaged a point for the team from Bergamo.
After the match, Gasperini told Atalanta’s official website: “Well, we have achieved an objective. We have reached the first one we had, which was to go into the final game having to play for qualification. We could have won this evening. We would have had two results in that case, but we didn’t manage to do it.
“There were a few incidents but it’s okay, the final game against Villarreal will be decisive. This is the first achievement already and we have the chance to make it through at home.”
Atalanta are now third in their Champions League group but can qualify for the last 16 if they defeat Villarreal.
