Giroud Backs Milan for Scudetto Success After Dominant Win

New-look Milan continue to impress at the start of the 2023/24 Serie A season as Torino fell victim to Rossoneri’s intimidating firepower on Saturday night. Olivier Giroud slotted two penalties to inspire Stefano Pioli’s side to a comprehensive 4-1 win at San Siro.

Star signing Christian Pulisic was on the scoresheet again after scoring a long-range screamer in a 2-0 victory at Bologna on the opening weekend. The USMNT forward opened the scoring with a simple tap-in before Giroud converted a penalty on the stroke of halftime. Milan doubled their lead moments after with a delightful finish from Theo Hernandez.

Giroud found the net again midway through the second half from another spot-kick, taking his tally for the season to three goals. The veteran French striker has rolled back the years in the early stage of the new Serie A campaign.

Milan look more than capable of returning the favor to Napoli, who dethroned them last season. Giroud insists Rossoneri’s prime objective is to reclaim domestic supremacy.

I was fortunate this evening to have two penalties, but it is never easy to put them in the net,” Giroud told Sky Sport Italia, as relayed by Tuttomercatoweb.

The lads worked really hard in the box, we could’ve scored more goals and I am very happy with the team spirit and how efficient we were.

The ambition is to do what we did two years ago! We hope to fight to the end with this spirit for the Scudetto.

In addition to his lofty ambitions in Serie A, the 36-year-old hopes Milan can improve on a heartbreaking semi-final exit in the Champions League last term.

There is a little more quality and quantity in the squad. I think this time we can play in both Serie A and the Champions League, while we also want to do well in the Coppa Italia.

Now we have many players who are ready to step in and there are at least two options for every role, maybe even three, so there is good competition and it raises the level.
