Milan legend Ruud Gullit was in Italy for the Giacinto Facchetti award and commented on his compatriots: “Denzel Dumfries joined the right team considering his style. He has a big heart and gives everything in all matches. He has become a key player for the Dutch national team, like Stefan De Vrij. They finally noticed them.”
The former midfielder weighed in on Matthijs De Ligt: “He grew up in Ajax, and he never felt any pressure when he was young. They mostly evaluate a player by what he does with the ball on his feet there. You are judged differently in Italy. Now he plays alongside the best defenders in the world. He is adjusting. I think he is too frantic right now. When he calms down, he will become a great center-back.”
Gullit discussed his long-time club to Sky: “I am happy Milan found the right pathway to success. They are a true team. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a champion, but they are strong even when he is not there. I saw the Liverpool match, they run into some trouble, but that game will help them a lot in Serie A. They will use it to improve.”
“It is too early to talk about winning the Scudetto, and I think the management is content with the Champions League return. That is already a way to go back to the great old times. The experience will aid them. Milan will soon be able to win again taking it step-by-step.”
