Hakan Calhanoglu was once again instrumental to his team’s success in Tuesday’s Champions League clash against RB Salzburg. He confirmed two trends in the 2-1 victory over the Austrian outfit, Opta relays (via Tuttomercatoweb).
The Turk has scored all his seven continental goals at home. It’s the highest tally among the players that hit the net only in front of their fans in such a competition, on par with Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp.
In addition, Calhanoglu converted another penalty kick. He has a perfect record from the spot since moving to Serie A. As a matter of fact, Simone Inzaghi has decided to hand him the duties after he and Lautaro Martinez alternated last season.
The midfielder has been successful in 29 out of 33 attempts throughout his career. His last error dates back to November 2016, when he was at Bayer Leverkusen. He’s now up to four goals and one assist in the first portion of the 2023/2024 campaign.
Calhanoglu was named the MVP of the game and commented to Sky afterward.
