Injury-prone midfielder Stefano Sensi could leave Inter on a six-month loan in January to get his stuttering career back on track. Per Calciomercato, the defending Serie A champions are exploring the idea of shipping their out-of-sorts playmaker out on a short-term loan to encourage his return to form.
Sensi’s career at the Giuseppe Meazza has been plagued by recurring injuries. Since arriving from Sassuolo in summer 2019, the 26-year-old has amassed just 51 appearances for Inter across all competitions, including 11 this season. However, it’s worth noting that he has registered just one Serie A start under new manager Simone Inzaghi.
Continuous injury setbacks, coupled with fierce competition for places in the middle of the park, have seen Sensi tumble down the pecking order at Inter. But the player’s qualities have never been brought into question. The Nerazzurri are reluctant to give up on the gifted playmaker, though they are aware his ongoing fitness issues would hamper his progress.
Therefore, Inter are assessing the prospect of loaning Sensi out as part of the club’s efforts to help their struggling star land regular first-team football in the second half of the season. Despite his sporadic appearances, the Italian has a host of admirers in Serie A who are willing to offer him much-needed playing time.
Fiorentina, Genoa, and Sassuolo are all interested in acquiring Sensi on a temporary deal.
La Viola are the surprise package of this Serie A season so far, especially following a nightmarish 2020/21 campaign. Vincenzo Italiano’s men are currently seventh in the league standings, only six points below fourth-placed Atalanta. With the coveted Champions League places well within reach, Fiorentina might be an exciting destination in January.
Meanwhile, Genoa are fighting tooth and nail to move away from the relegation zone as they currently languish in the 18th, five points adrift of safety. After a sluggish start to his managerial tenure at the Luigi Ferraris, new boss Andriy Shevchenko will be aiming to put his stamp on the squad he inherited from Davide Ballardini in November.
Considering Genoa’s horrendous domestic campaign so far, Sassuolo could be a way more attractive solution for Sensi. Though they are unlikely to fight for European qualification, the Neroverdi are tucked in mid-table comforts and have been arguably one of the most eye-pleasing teams to watch this season.
