Inter Edging Closer to Addressing Center-Forward Vacancy

After a massive weekend development, Inter could plug the attacking hole with Bologna striker Marko Arnautovic. Gianluca Di Marzio reports the Nerazzurri are inches away from sealing a definite agreement with Thiago Motta’s side over the Austrian’s switch to Giuseppe Meazza.

With the 2023/24 Serie A kick-off less than a week away, Inter have accelerated their pursuit of a new frontline leader. Simone Inzaghi has encountered little luck in his quest to replace Edin Dzeko and Romelu Lukaku. Desperate times require desperate measures.

Though Arnautovic hasn’t been the most favorable name on Beppe Marotta’s wishlist, the circumstances have forced the Inter chief to take a gamble with the Bologna talisman. Inzaghi’s men will splash out €8 million upfront plus another €2m in ‘easily achievable’ add-ons

If everything goes to plan, Arnautovic could make a return to Meazza. While less informed cannot be accused of not knowing, he was part of Jose Mourinho’s treble-winning squad in 2010. Not that he had any impact on the most iconic success in Inter history.

However, he was there. And he could bring back the memories as he approaches the twilight of his career. Arnautovic, 34, has some gas left in the tank, as evidenced by his decent two-year spell at Bologna. Inter could use his experience after losing Dzeko.

Despite his flamboyant nature, Arnautovic knows in-depth about scoring. As a short-term solution, he could offer Inzaghi at least ten goals per season, which would be more than enough to bolster Inter’s top-four bid in 2023/24.
