Inter Exploring Shock Move for Former Forward

Inter and Alexis Sanchez may not have said the last goodbye when the Chilean veteran left the club in the summer of 2022. A shock report from Corriere della Serra suggests Simone Inzaghi could bring the 34-year-old back to Giuseppe Meazza as one last resort amid a faltering bid to reinforce his frontline.

Options are dwindling for Inter. After being shut down by Romelu Lukaku, they’ve cast a wide net in pursuit of a new center-forward. However, there’s nothing to show for it yet. Inzaghi is not impressed by the idea of signing out-of-favor Atletico Madrid star Alvaro Morata, while Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun costs a small fortune.

Morata’s well-documented problems with the finishing touch have deterred Inter from launching talks with Atletico. Balogun is Beppe Marotta’s prime target, but unless the Gunners drop their €40 million valuation, the USMNT prodigy won’t be donning the Nerazzurri shirt next season.

Time is running out, and Inter must explore other avenues. Sanchez is a familiar face, having spent three seasons at the club before joining Marseille last summer. The skilled forward wasn’t a difference maker in its strictest sense, but he still netted some crucial goals for the Serie A giants.

A move to Ligue 1 helped Sanchez turn the corner. Despite his age, he enjoyed a phenomenal season in 2022/23, tallying 14 goals and three assists in 32 league appearances. However, while Inter could arrange the Chilean’s return for the sake of the old days, this should be taken with a grain of salt.
