Inter Player Ratings vs Milan: Thuram the Second Star Hero

In what was a special edition of the Derby della Madonnina, Milan and Inter clashed heads in the most iconic encounter of the Serie A campaign. Simone Inzaghi’s men extended their winning run over their crosstown rivals to mathematically secure the club’s 20th Scudetto title and unlock the greatly coveted second star. Francesco Acerbi nodded home the opener in the first half and Marcus Thuram doubled the Nerazzurri lead with a clever strike after the break. Fikayo Tomori reignited the Rossoneri hopes by pouncing on the rebound to peg one back, but the league leaders held on despite chaotic scenes that yielded three red cards, to kickstart the celebrations. So here are our player ratings for Inter who are now the newly-crowned Serie A champions after beating Milan 2-1 on a historic evening at San Siro.

Inter (3-5-2)

Yann Sommer – 7

The Swiss veteran was fabulous between the posts, pulling off a host of saves to deny the likes of Davide Calabria and Christian Pulisic. He also managed to thwart Matteo Gabbia but could do nothing about Tomori’s rebound.

Benjamin Pavard – 8

A defensive masterclass from the France international who made astonishing sliding tackles to deny Leao and Noah Okafor. He also delivered the assist for the opener.

Francesco Acerbi – 7.5

The Italian defender was largely untroubled at the back in the absence of a centre-forward in the first half. But made himself a pillar on the opposite end of the field by scoring the opener with a clinical header.

Alessandro Bastoni – 7

A solid display at the back from the former Atalanta man who also made himself useful on the attacking phase as he often does. Picked up Thuram with a long ball that instigated the second Inter goal.

Matteo Darmian – 6

The Italian veteran put on a committed shift but never posed himself as an offensive threat. Lost the aerial duel against Leao which led to Milan’s equalizer, but it remains a decent outing overall.

Nicolò Barella – 6.5

The Inter vice-captain always seems to be a man-possessed in the Derby, producing energetic display. Had his usual skirmishes with Theo Hernandez, with both men getting a booking for cynical fouls.

Hakan Calhanoglu – 6

The Turkiye international did the dirty work in the middle of the park, winning back possession and making some timely tackles. However, his night lacked the magical moments we grew accustomed to.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 6.5

A true veteran display from the Armenian who kept the ball ticking in midfield and won several fouls.

Federico Dimarco – 7

A superb display from the menacing left wingback who had a hand in the majority of the Inter attacks. His corner kick delivery instigated the opener and had the better of Yunus Musah.

Marcus Thuram – 8

A glorious performance from the Frenchman who is rapidly cementing himself as Milan’s new bogeyman. He was excellent in creating chances for his teammates, but then took matters into his own hands by finding the bottom corner with a delicate shot that was ultimately worth a Scudetto title.

Lautaro Martinez – 6.5

The Inter captain made himself involved in almost every play and freed his teammates with sublime passing. But should have ended his goal drought when Thuram fed him in front of goal, but instead scuffed his shot wide.
