Inter made history this evening, beating Torino 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino to register a fifth consecutive away win ‘to nil’ in Serie A for the first time since 1966. While the scoreline suggests Simone Inzaghi’s men had a walk in the park, the reality was quite the opposite.
As one of the best-performing defensive teams in Italy, Torino frustrated Inter for almost an hour. Despite enjoying more possession of the ball, Nerazzurri couldn’t find a way to break down Ivan Juric’s disciplined backline until the 59th minute.
Marquee summer signing Marcus Thuram provided the breakthrough with a stunning finish from the edge of the box. He slammed Denzel Dumfries’ cut-back into the far bottom corner with a well-take first-time effort to lay the foundation for Inter’s third straight win over Torino.
That was the Frenchman’s third goal in Serie A since joining Inter as a free agent from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer. While Lautaro Martinez and Hakan Calhanoglu sweetened the victory, Thuram’s opener was the crucial moment of an otherwise evenly-contested encounter.
Talking to the club’s official website after the match, Thuram praised his side’s second-half performance. He also spoke highly of his Inter teammate Dumfries.
“It was a great game. Every away game in Serie A is tough; they knew it’d be hard for us to play here. In the second half, we scored three goals and got the win. It’s normal that a team has to dig in here: Torino are a physical side.” the new Inter talisman said.
“Dumfries? He is a great player. I get on with him really well. I thank him for the assist today. This is a great team; I’m happy to be here and to help the team in every game.“
