Inter vs Roma Referee Designation Sparks Controversy

The Serie A Round 34 big clash between Inter and Roma has already been ignited by controversy as the Giallorossi fans protested over the decision of designating a Milanese-born referee for the game.

Referee Simone Sozza has refereed in nine Serie A matches this year, without ever crossing either Inter or Milan, despite having all the credentials to do so. According to the rules of the Italian Referees Association, whose head is Gianluca Rocchi, what counts is the section to which a referee belongs.

Sozza belongs to the section of Seregno, a town in the Province of Monza and Brianza. The fact that he was born in Milan does not hinder in any way the referee’s designation.

The matter is far from closed, however, with the supporters of Roma claiming on social networks that Inter will “bring their own referee from home” or that Sozza “will sympathize with the Nerazzurri“.

Inter vs Roma will take place on Saturday at 6.00 PM at the Stadio San Siro in Milan.
