Everton playmaker James Rodriguez is open to moving to Serie A amid continuous speculations about Milan’s interest in his services. During his Twitch stream, the ex-Real Madrid star admitted he would like to move to Italy after performing in the remaining four of Europe’s top-five leagues.
Rodriguez joined Everton as a free agent last summer after running down his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, putting pen to paper on a two-year deal. Carlo Ancelotti, who played a vital role in luring the 30-year-old to Goodison Park, took over the managerial reins at Madrid this summer.
The Italian coach recommended his former pupil to Milan earlier in the summer, hailing his professional and technical qualities. The Rossoneri are on the lookout for a new playmaker despite bringing Brahim Diaz back earlier in July.
Hakan Calhanoglu’s departure for Inter means Paolo Maldini has to add a top-class creative midfielder to replace the former Bayer Leverkusen star. Rodriguez has emerged among potential candidates to fill the void, though the cost of the operation has put Milan off for the time being.
Yet, the 2020/21 Serie A runners-up could make an attempt to land the left-footed attacking midfielder in the most recent turn of events. Rodriguez opened the door for a potential move to Serie A as he intends to cut short his brief Premier League spell.
“I would like to play in a place where they want me. I have already played in all leagues. Just Italy is missing. Serie A would be a good option,” he said, as relayed by MilanEye.
Milan are understood to be considering other options for the playmaking role. Real Madrid’s Isco, CSKA Moscow’s Nikola Vlasic, and RB Leipzig’s Marcel Sabitzer are the profiles examined by Maldini and co.
