Juventus and Inter may not confront just on the field this season, with their rivalry set to spread across the transfer market again. According to famous Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, the eternal Serie A rivals are ready to go head-to-head for the services of outgoing Lille center-forward Jonathan David.
The Canada international has rejected Les Dogues’ latest attempt to tie him down to a new contract. David’s current deal at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy runs out at the end of the season. Since he’s unwilling to extend his four-year stay in Ligue 1, Inter and Juventus are ready to pounce and take the 24-year-old to Serie A.
Inter harbor a long-term interest in David. They considered him an option this summer before agreeing on personal terms with Mehdi Taremi. Beppe Marotta hoped to lure David to Giuseppe Meazza in a cut-price deal, only to be blown out of the water by Lille’s excessive €30 million asking price.
David could reward the Inter chief’s patience by choosing to join the Nerazzurri over Juventus next summer. However, Bianconeri sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli will not go down without a fight. He has been on the Canadian striker’s tail for over a year.
With Arkadiusz Milik likely to be gone at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, Juventus are keen to replace him with David. Better chances of regular first-team football could give the Turin giants an upper hand on Inter, who already have three top-class strikers in their ranks.
