Juventus Player Ratings vs Sporting: Rabiot the Hero and Villain

At the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon, Sporting hosted Juventus for the second leg of the Europa League quarter-final. The Italians entered the match with a slim advantage from the first leg, and Adrien Rabiot gave them a two-goal cushion by breaking the deadlock early on. However, Marcus Edwards pulled one back from the spot to restore Portuguese hopes. Nevertheless, the Bianconeri managed to survive the late onslaught and squeeze past their opponents. So here are our player ratings for Juventus who booked a spot in the semi-final against Sevilla after eliminating Sporting with a 2-1 score on aggregate.

Juventus (4-3-3)

Wojciech Szczesny – 6.5

Despite a flurry of Sporting chances, the Polish goalkeeper was scarcely tested. He was only beaten from the spot by Edwards.

Juan Cuadrado – 7

The Colombian was arguably Massimiliano Allegri’s best player on the night. Defended with incredible heart and tenacity and was always willing to make the long sprint to join in the attacks.

Danilo – 6

A decent performance from the Juventus captain despite losing his composure in two instances later on.

Bremer – 6.5

A typically-solid outing from the Brazilian defender who pulled off a string of vital interceptions. Left the pitch in the second half after sustaining a knock much to the dismay of the Old Lady’s faithful.

Alex Sandro – 5.5

The former Porto man lost his man in the play that led to Sporting’s spot-kick. But it would have been a positive outing if it wasn’t for that particular incident.

Fabio Miretti – 6

The youngster did well at the back, as he was always present to lend a hand to the Juventus defenders. But he was less impressive with the ball at his feet.

Manuel Locatelli – 6.5

A combative display from the Euro 2020 winner who amiably shielded the backline.

Adrien Rabiot – 6.5

The Frenchman took advantage of a scramble in the box to open the scoring with a clinical touch, before clumsily giving away a penalty. Nonetheless, it remains a decent outing overall.

Angel Di Maria – 6

The Argentine worked extremely hard and managed to retrieve the ball in the final third. Picked up Cuadrado’s run brilliantly on one occasion.

Dusan Vlahovic – 5

Another frustrating evening for the Serbian striker who just can’t find a way towards goal these days. Had two opportunities in the second period, but he couldn’t translate them into goals

Federico Chiesa – 5.5

The winger tracked back to support the defenses, but he was wasteful on the ball with his excessive dribbling.

Substitutes

Arkadiusz Milik – 5.5

The Pole hardly touched the ball after coming in as Juventus decided to abandon all attacking ventures in the final 20 minutes.

Paul Pogba – 5.5

The returning midfielder remains out of shape. Struggled against his skillful foes and had to commit several fouls.

Federico Gatti – 6.5

A positive cameo from the Italian defender who replaced the injured Bremer. Made some crucial clearances.

Filip Kostic – 6

The Serbian made himself useful at the back, supporting Sandro in shutting down Sporting’s dangerous right flank.
