Lazio are no longer certain to win the race to sign Alessio Romagnoli. They have begun searching for alternative options to bolster their defense.

Lazio and Fiorentina Earmark Young Genoa Stopper

After 15 consecutive seasons in Serie A, Genoa will play in the Serie B for the first time since 2006/07. Despite Genoa suffering relegation, their up-and-coming center-back Johan Vasquez could see himself play in the top-tier in 2022/23 as a couple of clubs register strong interest in him.

According to Calciomercato, the young Mexican has been followed throughout the 2021/22 season by the Biancocelesti and La Viola as both clubs look to reinforce their respective defenses.

In spite of the Rossoblu possessing the eighth worst defense in the league, Vasquez enjoyed a productive first season on loan in Europe after moving from Liga MX side UNAM Pumas last season.

The 23-year-old has a transfermarkt value of €4m, but only a tag of €10m will reportedly attract the interest of Genoa.

Lazio risk losing Francesco Acerbi, but they are still in talks with Milan regarding Alessio Romagnoli’s signature. Fiorentina on the other hand have been contacted by several clubs,  including Milan for Nikola Milenkovic, and might want to add Vasquez to their ranks as a backup.

Vasquez has 138 senior appearances since making his professional debut in 2017/18.
