Leicester City Hero Ranieri Backs Roma to Better Ex-Club If They Meet

Iconic Italian manager Claudio Ranieri started his coaching career in 1986, and has since managed a host of top-tier clubs during his 36-year reign – from Napoli and Chelsea to Juventus and Atletico Madrid. However, throughout his three decades at the top of the game, he has won just one top division title so far that arrived with Leicester City’s remarkable 2015/16 Premier League triumph.

Despite winning the most major trophy of his glittering career with Leicester City, the Rome-born coach has his allegiances strong with his home city, where he began his senior professional career.

In a recent interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport (via RomaPress), he admitted that he would support the Giallorossi if Leicester City met Roma in the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League.

“It’s obvious. I am and always will be Roman and a Romanista,” he said, when quizzed about where his heart would lie incase both teams met in the next round.

Roma face Norwegian heavyweights Bodo/Glimt, who handed the Giallorossi a thrashing in the group stages of the competition. Meanwhile, Leicester City play Dutch aces PSV Eindhoven over two legs in the quarter-finals.
