Lozano Doing Better after Scary Clash Against Leicester City

Hirving Lozano left the Leicester City game on a stretcher after a violent collision with an opponent. However, it appears that he has avoided severe injuries. The attacker lost a tooth but did not fracture his nose and did not suffer a concussion as initially feared.

Napoli announced today that Lozano sustained a craniofacial trauma, but the test on potential brain problems came back clean. The doctors will monitor him over the next few days, but he is not expected to miss significant time.

Lozano had a similar incident during the summer while playing with Mexico against Trinidad and Tobago in the Gold Cup. While he escaped without neurological issues, he sustained an eye injury and a neck trauma on that occasion and was out of commission for six weeks.

It does not seem that will be the case in this instance. The early indication is that the situation is significantly less alarming. On the other hand, Napoli will continue to be extremely depleted ahead of Sunday’s match versus Empoli.

On top of Lozano, Stanislav Lobotka is highly in doubt due to a thigh contusion he picked up in the previous Serie A game. Lorenzo Insigne and André-Franck Zambo Anguissa practiced on the side today. The former is nursing a calf contracture, the latter a thigh strain. They will be late calls for the tilt. Fabian Ruiz worked only in the gym and has very slim chances of being available. Kalidou Koulibaly and Victor Osimhen are on the mend too.
