Luis Alberto Adamant Lazio Deserved More Against Napoli

Lazio stalwart Luis Alberto believes his side deserved more than an uneventful scoreless draw against downtrodden Napoli. In a game of no chances, Maurizio Sarri’s men showed slightly more ambition to trouble the scoreboard but not nearly enough to make it happen.

With a fourth-placed Atalanta three points up before the kick-off, Lazio had a decent opportunity to draw level on points with La Dea. However, Sarri’s conservative approach backfired as Biancocelesti failed to find the net in home league action for the fourth time this season.

Though stats paint a bleak picture, with Lazio attempting just one shot on target, Alberto feels his side should’ve won the game. The illustrious playmaker pulled the strings in the front third, but his effort went in vain as his teammates struggled to keep up with him.

I think about our performance, we didn’t concede a goal,” the Lazio ace told Sky, as quoted by TMW. “In the Super Cup we lacked the defensive phase: today, we are happy with the performance, it’s a shame we didn’t score and didn’t bring home the three points. It’s a shame we didn’t win.

Following an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Inter in their Supercoppa Italiana semi-final tie, Lazio fired a second blank on the trot. Taty Castellanos saw his spectacular overhead kick at the start of the second half disallowed for offside.

Other than that, Lazio didn’t have a single opening. To their credit, they did keep Napoli at arm’s length, although it wasn’t an achievement, knowing the visitors touched down at the Stadio Olimpico severely weakened.
