Maignan Escapes Three-Match Ban, Will Return Against Napoli

Mike Maignan has escaped a short-term ban and will only miss the game against Juventus. The French shotstopper saw a direct red card in the seventh minute of stoppage time against Genoa, forcing Olivier Giroud to take his place between the sticks as Milan held out to a 1-0 win.

Many feared Maignan would be handed a three-match ban for his high-knee challenge on Caleb Ekuban as the goalkeeper stormed outside his box to clear the ball.

Lega Serie AΒ announced the one-match ban has been held for Maignan, who was also expected to miss successive clashes against Napoli and Udinese, β€œper essersi reso responsabile di un fallo grave di giuoco.”

He will be back in goal as the guardian against the Partenopei at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Genoa goalkeeper Josep Martinez was also given marching orders after challenging Fikayo Tomori during a corner delivery deep towards the death due to β€œDoppia ammonizione per comportamento non regolamentare in campo e per comportamento scorretto nei confronti di un avversario.”

The Rossoneri will have substitute goalkeeper Marco Sportiello man the posts against Juventus at San Siro in a highly-anticipated top-of-the-table clash. Meanwhile, Theo Hernandez will also miss the game against the Bianconeri due to the accumulation of yellow cards β€œper comportamento scorretto nei confronti di un avversario; giΓ  diffidato – Quinta sanzione,” the League stated.
