Milan Boss Stefano Pioli Couldn’t Care Less About Derby d’Italia

Milan boss Stefano Pioli has played down the relevance of the upcoming showdown between Juventus and Inter. According to the experienced Italian coach, the only thing that matters for the Rossoneri right now is their own results.

The Scudetto race is heating up as we approach the business end of the 2021/22 Serie A season. Napoli’s impressive 3-1 win away to Atalanta earlier on Sunday bridged the gap between the Partenopei and Milan, cranking up the pressure on Pioli’s men ahead of their home clash against Bologna.

Monday’s encounter between Milan and Bologna at San Siro will conclude the weekend’s Serie A action. The Rossoneri head into proceedings on the back of three consecutive 1-0 league victories, but they can ill-afford to get complacent following Napoli’s triumph.

Inter are still sniffing around despite their dramatic drop-off over the past couple of months, while Juventus have been given an outside chance to steal away the title. Therefore, Sunday’s Derby d’Italia could have a significant bearing on the title race in Italy.

However, Pioli insists he could not care less about the outcome of the mouth-watering match-up at the Allianz Stadium. The 56-year-old is adamant that his men hold their Scudetto fate firmly in their hands, though he admitted he’ll watch tonight’s derby.

Tonight, I will look at it for sure, but very detached,” Pioli said in Sunday’s presser, as relayed by SempreMilan. “It no longer matters what others do.

The Milan boss also called the San Siro faithful to give his team ‘more energy’ down the final stretch.

More energy, that’s what we want. The enthusiasm of our fans must give us enthusiasm and the possibility of playing this match at the best of our strength is a positive thing.
