Milan Bust Reluctant to Leave San Siro

Milan won’t get rid of Divock Origi as easy as they hoped. Despite omitting him from the pre-season squad and offering him to several clubs, the Rossoneri couldn’t find him a new home. Per Gazzetta dello Sport, the Belgian striker could stay put against the odds.

Origi joined Milan as a free agent last summer after running down his contract at Liverpool. The 28-year-old penned a four-year contract designed to keep him at San Siro until 2026. On top of that, he is one of the club’s highest earners. His premium wages stand at €4 million a year.

However, Origi has done next to nothing to justify his lucrative salary. Milan cannot wait to see him waltz away, but his skills are no longer in high demand. Things go from bad to worse, as the former Wolfsburg forward doesn’t fancy a move to Saudi Arabia.

Since the loaded Gulf state is the only viable option for Origi, Milan may have to keep hold of their unwanted property. He’s hopeful of sealing a return to the Premier League. Yet, after a disastrous first year in Serie A, that prospect looks far-fetched.

Origi’s reluctance to leave gives Milan a sizeable headache. They’ve just managed to offload Junior Messias to Genoa. Charles De Ketelaere could be next after Atalanta found common ground with Stefano Pioli’s side over the 22-year-old’s loan switch to Bergamo

But Milan must offset their substantial summer outlay, and Origi’s unwillingness to leave remains the elephant in the room.
