Milan Striker Giroud Aspires to Replicate ‘Favorite Player’ Shevchenko

Milan head into the final weeks of the Serie A season on top of standings, leading fellow title contenders Napoli and Inter by a minimal but impressive margin.

One of the reasons why the Rossoneri are at the top is due to the performances of Frenchman Olivier Giroud, whose recent displays have earned Milan six points – first scoring a comeback brace in a 2-1 win against the Nerazzurri on matchday 24, before scoring the only goal in Milan’s 1-0 victory over Napoli earlier in March.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), Giroud revealed his boyhood dream of winning the Scudetto just like his favorite player Andriy Shevchenko.

The dream is to bring the Scudetto back to Milan, eleven years after the last one. It is another childhood dream. It’s true, as a boy I followed Arsenal a lot, but I supported Milan a lot because of my favorite player Shevchenko. I would be really proud to lead Milan like him,” commented Giroud.

Above everything else, Giroud is not counting out fellow title rivals out of the race for the championship.

He said: “Inter have not sunk and remain a danger, just like Napoli and Juve. We are aware that the Scudetto is within reach, but we must remain humble and continue to work hard until the end. We only have some ‘finals’ to play.”

Moreover, the French World Cup winner disclosed what it feels like to play along one of his childhood idols in Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

“I told him that my friends gave me his Barcelona shirt. He laughed a bit about it. At that time I was just starting out and he was already at the top. I liked him for his style and personality on the pitch. I’m proud to be able to work with him, learn every day from him too. He’s almost an older brother and an element very important for everyone.”

The ex-Chelsea an Arsenal striker has been a hit so far at the San Siro, notching in 11 goals and 4 assists In 29 appearances for the Rossoneri in his debut campaign.
