Milan to Prioritize Bournemouth and Wolfsburg Defenders

Milan ultimately didn’t sign a new defender in January but their search hasn’t ended, and they are tracking Lloyd Kelly and Maxime Lacroix for the summer. The Rossoneri will likely elect not to retain Simon Kjaer, who’s on an expiring contract.

Per Tuttosport, director Geoffrey Moncada and their scouts have attended several Bournemouth matches this season. The Englishman tops their wish list also because he’s left-footed, unlike their top options Fikayo Tomori, Malick Thiaw, and Pierre Kalulu. He’s out of contract in June. The Serie A powerhouse has been after him for a few months.

While Milan could onboard Kelly gratis if they bested the competition, they’d have to pay a fee for Lacroix. He’s in an advantageous situation too, though. His deal with Wolfsburg runs out in 2025, which keeps his price tag in check, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

The center-back has appeared 23 times this season, scoring once. He moved to the Bundesliga for €5M from Sochaux in 2020. He has accumulated 117 appearances and could be ready for a new challenge.

Our Take on Milan, Kelly, and Lacroix

The scenario will change at the end of the season. It’ll be easier to sign and integrate a newcomer from abroad, while they wanted somebody ready in January. They are right on schedule to bring in the former in a Bosman move, but, considering that he plays in the Premier League and is likely on the radar of multiple clubs, his salary would be quite expensive.
