Monza Player Pablo Marí Wounded in Mall Knife Attack

Monza player Pablo Marí is among five people stabbed in a knife attack that happened on Thursday afternoon in a shopping center in the Milanofiori Area in Assago, a southwest suburb of Milan.

According to the Italian police, a 46-year-old man stabbed six people, leaving one man dead and injuring four, including the Monza center-back, before being taken into custody.

The reasons behind the attack are still unknown but Italian authorities said there were no elements to suggest terrorism. The perpetrator has been reported has having mental health problems. Multiple witnesses reported that he suddenly grabbed a knife from a supermarket rack and started to stab at random people.

Spanish defender Pablo Marí, who is on loan at Monza from Arsenal, was taken to a hospital but is “not seriously hurt”, his club reported in an official statement. Monza CEO Adriano Galliani and coach Raffaele Palladino are currently with him at the hospital.

Unfortunately, the attack resulted in the death of a 47-year-old employee of the supermarket where the incident took place. Our thoughts are with the victims of this vicious act and we wish to extend our condolences to the poor man’s family.
