José Mourinho has found a new home at Fenerbahce this summer a few months after Roma fired him, but he hasn’t forgotten about his time in the Eternal City, especially one of his biggest controversies. He spoke about it to Fanatik (via SOSFanta).
“First and foremost, I want to advance in the Europa League. It’s a new format that’s unknown to everybody, but we must try. I’ve coached 200 matches in the continental cups, but it’ll be different this time. The referees? I’ve never had any problem with UEFA. I have an excellent relationship with their president. I’m part of its history, and they know it.”
“However, in the Europa League final versus Sevilla, the official and the VAR decided we shouldn’t win, while everybody was certain we should have been awarded a PK. As long as I’ll live, I’ll never forget that game. I hope things will go better with Fenerbahce.”
Mourinho praised but also criticized Victor Osimhen a little.
“He’s a fantastic player. I’d sign him if I were a club that could spend €70/75M. I’ve no problems with him, but he dives a lot. I told him that directly too, adding that he was one of the best African footballers along with Mohamed Salah and after Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto’o, and George Weah.”
Mourinho plans to set roots in Turkey.
“My goal is to have success with Fenerbahce, and they want me to stay long term. I second that. I’ve had the chance to take over some national teams in the past but always refused. It’s a job that wouldn’t make me happy. Maybe I will one day when I’ll be old and tired, but I still have a lot of energy.”
