Mourinho Shoots Down Buzz About Feud with Roma Brass

José Mourinho spoke about his arrival at Roma, their problems on the transfer market, and more in an interview with Corriere dello Sport.

“I signed for this club because when I liked what the Friedkins told me. Their words touched me deeply. I needed that. They thought I was the right man to make this team bigger. I appreciated their three-year project with progressive growth.”

The Special One addressed the lack of signings up front.

“After losing Tammy Abraham, we are in a situation no coach would like. I can’t say I’m happy. However, it would be wrong to suggest that I’m at war with the hierarchy and Tiago Pinto. They are aware we’re late. I’m not irate nor depressed.”

Mourinho clarified his rapport with the exec.

“We are together every day. Even when we disagree, I believe we want the same thing. I’ve always had excellent relationships with the clubs I’ve worked with. I’ve always left out of my own volition when I felt the time was right. The only exception was Tottenham.”

Mourinho revealed which side pursued him.

“Al-Hilal and Al-Ahli. I’ve thought about it, but I told the owners I wouldn’t accept. I owed it to the players after promising I would stay, but that wasn’t the only reason. The fact that my contract ends next year doesn’t change anything.”
