Paolo Maldini Backs Milan to Get Scudetto Race Over The Line

Another day, another comeback for Milan, who are now galloping towards their first Scudetto in over a decade. Stefano Pioli’s team picked themselves up from a 1-0 down to beat Hellas Verona 3-1 and move back to the top of the Serie A table.

Verona took the lead at Marc’Antonio Bentegodi through their captain Davide Faraoni late in the first half. However, the Rossoneri, who were a far better side this evening, replied before the interval as Rafael Leao breezed past his marker to set up Sandro Tonali for an equaliser on the stroke of half-time.

A potentially Scudetto-winning combination worked their magic at the beginning of the second half. Leao received on Milan’s half and went all the way to the byline to lay off another assist for Tonali, who tapped the ball into the empty net to complete the turnaround in the 50th minute.

Second-half substitute Alessandro Florenzi sealed Verona’s fate in the 86th minute after a tasty-looking give-and-go with Junior Messias, firing Milan back to the top. Pioli’s men are now four points away from lifting their first Serie A title since 2011, with a home meeting with Atalanta coming next.

Owners of a four-game winning league streak, Milan will head into the penultimate round of fixtures in high spirits. The Rossoneri technical direction Paolo Maldini believes Pioli’s lads will not crack under pressure, with the long-awaited Scudetto now well within their grasp.

We are close because there are only two rounds left. These are not easy games, but neither was the one we played this evening,” he said, as relayed by TUTTOmercatoWEB.

I watched Atalanta today, they are alive and kicking, still challenging for Europe and full of top level players. We are playing at San Siro, a packed house. There will be a lot of pressure on us, but we can handle it.
