Roma and Chelsea Nearing Agreement on Lukaku Loan Deal

Chelsea and Roma are in the final stages of the negotiation to bring Romelu Lukaku to the Italian capital. The two teams have agreed to a €5M fee for the loan, but they continue to haggle on how to split his wages.

Per Corriere dello Sport, the Giallorossi want to pay at most €7.5M for the 2023/2024 season, while he’s scheduled to make €11M. Perhaps the striker will give up part of his salary to facilitate the move.

As José Mourinho hinted in a recent press conference, Roma intend to add another striker on top of Sardar Azmoun and zeroed in on Lukaku once Chelsea changed their mind about sending him out on loan again. In addition, their newcomer is currently on the shelf due to a calf injury.

The Giallorossi will throw in a couple of million in add-ons. The Blues tried to insert an obligation to buy, but the capital side refused. They can’t commit to a pricey purchase due to their financial fair play restrictions. The sides will revisit the situation next summer. Qualifying for the Champions League would help make the transfer permanent down the line.

You never know in the transfer market and in this window in particular, but things seem too advanced to collapse, and it’ll be a coup.
