Roma have been on a different level since Daniele De Rossi took Jose Mourinho’s place in the dugout in January. At the thick of Giallorossi’s resurgence is Argentine wizard Paulo Dybala, who can’t stop scoring under the new manager.
The 30-year-old has been in scintillating form in the last five matches, tallying seven goals and one assist. Dybala single-handedly toppled Torino on Monday, notching a hat-trick in a 3-2 home win as Roma confirmed their uptick in form under De Rossi’s tutelage.
Another confirmation of the ex-Juventus forward’s talismanic presence came on Saturday. Dybala slotted home a stunning free-kick as Roma humbled Monza 4-1 at the Stadio Brianteo, closing the gap on fourth-placed Bologna to a single point.
Impressed with his superstar’s sterling display, De Rossi took to the press to hail Dybala’s commitment and ‘special’ talent.
“Dybala is working at the top level every day. He’s a role model. His talent is something different,” the Roma boss said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
It’s been six years since Roma last secured a top-four finish in Serie A. However, what not long ago seemed almost impossible has become a distinct probability, with Giallorossi, led by Dybala’s imperious form, going from strength to strength under De Rossi.
There’s still a long road ahead, but they’re on the right trajectory. It won’t take long before Roma get another chance to prove their Champions League credentials. They travel to Tuscany next week to take on fellow European hopefuls Fiorentina.
