Roma Reignite Links to Sign Highly-Rated Lille Wingback

Tottenham Hotspur, Fiorentina and Atletico Madrid target Zeki Celik, who was instrumental in helping Lille lift the Ligue 1 title in 2020/21, has a new suitor tipped to lure him in the upcoming winter transfer window in January.

TUTTOmercatoweb reports of Jose Mourinho’s Roma keenly scouting the 24-year-old Turkish right-back in a bid to bolster their defensive options. So far at the Stadio Olimpico, Dutchman Rick Karsdorp has held the full-back position on the right wing, which has been somewhat leaky as the season has progressed.

Roma already have Karsdorp, 20-year-old youngster Bryan Reynolds and Davide Santon in line for the role but the Giallorossi management have identified the need for a young and established player, preferably as a wing-back.

Celik was touted to move to either Tottenham or Roma in the recently concluded summer transfer window but no offers materialized for Les Dogues to take his future into account. However, links are slowly resurfacing for the highly rated defender.

His contract with the French champions expires in June 2023, prompting them to take a decision on whether to offer him a new contract deal, risk losing him for free or most likely cash in on his services. He has a transfermarkt value of €20m – that is only going to increase per Lille’s asking price.
