In-form Roma talisman Romelu Lukaku doesn’t care whether it’s club or international level as he cannot stop scoring. Belgium are on the verge of demolishing continental minnows Azerbaijan in their last Euro 2024 qualifier, with the Chelsea loanee at the thick of it.
Less than 40 minutes into their sign-off qualifying Group F fixture, Belgium are 4-0 up against 10-man Azerbaijan. Despite securing their berth at next summer’s Euros with matches to spare, Domenico Tedesco’s men are hellbent on throwing a spectacle in Brussels to drop the curtain on another unbeaten qualifying campaign in style.
As it looks like, Azerbaijan won’t forget Sunday’s visit to Belgium soon. Coming into De Rode Duivels’ final Euro 2024 qualifier, Lukaku was at the top of the scoring charts in the current qualifying cycle with ten goals, trumping Cristiano Ronaldo’s ten-goal tally by a narrow margin. However, he has done more than enough to put clear daylight between the pair.
The free-scoring Roma striker bagged a sensational first-half quadruple to take his incredible haul to 14 goals. He opened the scoring with an early strike before tallying a ten-minute hat-trick. Lukaku pounced on Timothy Castagne’s lay-off to slot home an inch-perfect right-foot finish before heading Wout Faes’ cross into the bottom left corner. It took him only ten minutes to complete his hat-trick.
Orel Mangala played a delightful through ball into Lukaku’s stride, with the Roma ace placing his shot past Azerbaijan goalkeeper Shahrudin Mahammadaliyev to make it 4-0 for Belgium in the 37th minute. There’s still plenty of time to go, and it’s hard to put it past the robust forward to increase his output.
