Roma to Take Their Time to Find Wijnaldum Replacement

Roma plan to sign another midfielder to replace the injured Gini Wijnaldum, but they will not rush it. The club is taking things slow also to fully evaluate the issue of the newcomer.

As per Corriere dello Sport, The Giallorossi owners want the midfielder to be checked on by professor Georg Ahlbaumer of the Klinik Gut in St. Moritz. It will happen after Friday since he’s currently on vacation. He could be the one to perform the surgery on the loanee instead of doctor Pier Paolo Mariani of Villa Stuart in the Italian capital.

They will decide alongside PSG and the Dutch national team considering that the goal is to have him ready for the World Cup. But Roma will need to sign somebody to substitute Wijnaldum in the short term.

They will revisit Florian Grillitsch, who’s still a free agent. He has failed to come to terms with Fiorentina and Brighton. The Giallorossi were quickly linked to Sasa Lukic after his rift with Torino became public. He has since apologized and has been reintegrated. Verona’s Adrien Tameze and Udinese’s Jean-Victor Makengo could also be options.

The injury suffered by Nicolò Zaniolo isn’t overly serious. The likely addition of Andrea Belotti will compensate for it. They want to offload Felix Afena-Gyan before signing Il Gallo. Cremonese have offered €4M plus add-ons for the youngster.

Our Take on Roma Looking to Substitute Wijnaldum

It’s surely a tough break since they probably won’t be able to add somebody of the same caliber. However, unheralded but productive players like the aforementioned Serie A options would suffice for a few months. Nemanja Matic hasn’t started in the first two matches, something that will change very soon.
