Ronaldo Under Investigation for Violating Traveling Restrictions

While his teammates were breezing past SPAL in the Coppa Italia’s Quarter Finals on Wednesday night, Cristiano Ronaldo, who was given the day off, spent the day with his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez in Courmayeur, a renowned skiing destination.

However, he may have broken the traveling restrictions imposed by the Italian government due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The local authorities are looking into the matter, news agency Ansa reported.

In order to contain the spread of the disease, it is currently allowed to leave the region where one is located only for some limited exceptions, like for work or for an emergency, and not for recreational purposes. Ronaldo lives in Turin, in Piedmont, while Courmayeur is in the nearby Aosta Valley.

However, it is permitted to reach a property that belongs to a family member, provided it is empty. This is what the police forces will have to determine before eventually issuing a large fine against the Portuguese ace and his partner. According to Repubblica, the two spent the night at a hotel that was officially closed. The trip was well documented on social media, even though the posts were eventually removed.

Corriere della Sera pointed out that this is the second time the Juventus striker is being investigated for violating the protocols. Back in October, after testing negative, he left the Juventus “bubble” to reach his national team’s camp, which led to a heated exchange with the Italian sports minister Vincenzo Spadafora. A few days later, he contracted Coronavirus while in Portugal.
