Salernitana Poised to Sign Former Bayern Munich Star

Salernitana will have a highly decorated defender helping them avoid relegation, as Jerome Boateng is expected to be announced as a new signing on Friday. The club didn’t need to do it on deadline day since he’s a free agent.

Per La Stampa, Boateng will return to the pitch after being without a team for seven months. He last played on June 3rd with Lyon. The veteran had been linked to Roma and Napoli earlier this season. He has won 28 trophies during the course of his career. He didn’t stay and wasn’t brought back by Bayern Munich partly due to an ongoing trial for domestic violence.

Returning Salernitana director Walter Sabatini convinced Boateng at the beginning of January. He’ll ink a six-month contract and will make around €500k. The signing will cost €1.5M in total due to the commissions. The veteran has already been training, but the team needed to complete some departures before formally signing him. He’ll be called up versus Torino.

The center-back told the execs to be in good form as he has been working with a personal trainer and some members of Bayern Munich’s U-23 squad lately. His former teammate Franck Ribery has served as an assistant since retiring.

Our Take on Salernitana and Boateng

It’s quite the desperate move, especially after partying ways with two talented but underperforming youngsters like Mattia Lovato and Flavius Daniliuc, but their defense, which has given up 44 goals in 22 rounds, clearly wasn’t working.
