Serie A Giants Make Contact with Liverpool Forward for Summer Transfer

Liverpool forward Divock Origi, most famously known for his tie-winning brace in the Champions League semi-final second leg against Barcelona at Anfield in the 2018/19 campaign, has two Serie A suitors in line for his signature ahead of next season.

According to reports from TUTTOmercatoweb, Scudetto title contenders Napoli and top-four hopefuls Atalanta have already made contact with the representatives of the Belgian center-forward. With his contract in Merseyside expiring at the end of the season, the 26-year-old looks to restart his career elsewhere. He currently earns €4.5m net per season with the Reds.

However, that figure might prove to be a barrier in his move to the Partenopei, as the Italians are prepared only to part ways with €3m in wages. He is touted to replace marksman Victor Osimhen, if the Nigerian does proceed to leave the club amid interest from European heavyweights. Also, the situation of forward Dries Mertens is uncertain. The Belgian is yet to agree to a contract extension.

In the case of Atalanta, contacts was already made last summer between the two parties regarding a transfer. Gian Piero Gasperini’s outfit face uncertain futures with both pure in-the-box of the club – Luis Muriel and Duvan Zapata – both having attracted interest to move away from Bergamo.

He has fallen out of favor at Anfield this season, especially since the Reds signed forward Luis Diaz from Porto in the winter.

The 2019 Champions League winner has scored 40 goals in 168 appearances for Liverpool across six seasons. He has grown to be a cult favorite among fans, with a graffiti most recently appearing in the streets of New York City: “Football without Origi is nothing”
