Serie A Powerhouses Eyeing Up Italiano for the Future

Vincenzo Italiano showed his loyalty toward Fiorentina last summer, electing to stay despite Napoli’s courtship. The Partenopei plot to try again, as they see Walter Mazzarri as a stopgap. But a few other top sides are intrigued by the gaffer, Sportitalia’s Michele Criscitiello reported.

The boss could indeed be in his final season with the Viola. Aurelio De Laurentiis didn’t push the envelope because he’s on good terms with Rocco Commisso. His contract doesn’t have a clause. He’s tied to the Gigliati until the end of the season, but the club holds an option to re-up automatically.

On top of Napoli, Roma, Juventus, and perhaps even Milan could be keen on Italiano. The Giallorossi are unlikely to confirm José Mourinho and might turn to an up-and-comer. Stefano Pioli is having a rough season. Massimiliano Allegri will enter the final deal of his rich contract with the Old Lady in June.

While the Tuscan boss has been routinely under fire in the past two campaigns, that hasn’t been the case in the current one thanks to his team’s strong showings. But there hasn’t been any extension chatter, either.

Our Take on Italiano

He’s an ambitious guy and quickly leveled up during his young career, so his departure wouldn’t be surprising. He’d be a great fit for Napoli, while Roma would have to overhaul their squad to make it fit. Moreover, it’s not outlandish to think Allegri could leave on top, and the Bianconeri might not stop him to cut costs.
