The Impressive Numbers Behind Milan’s French Connection

With the acquisition of Olivier Giroud and Mike Maignan at the start of the season from Chelsea and Lille respectively, Milan extended their roster consisting of French players. The Rossoneri possess five players from France, excluding few others such as Ismael Bennacer and Fode Ballo-Toure who have French heritage in one way or the other.

Milan’s French connection, as pointed out by Sky Sport (via MilanNews), has complimented Stefano Pioli’s outfit on more than one occasion – six times, in fact. When Maignan, Giroud and Theo Hernandez have taken to the pitch in Rossoneri colors together, Milan have never lost.

As a matter of fact, Il Diavolo have gone on to win all the six matches the trio have started – culminating with Milan’s most recent and emphatic victory over Derby della Madonnina rivals Inter in Serie A, where veteran striker Giroud banged in a three-minute quickfire brace to overturn the scoreline from a goal down.

Giroud, meanwhile, also became the first ever French player to score a brace in a Serie A match against the Nerazzurri.

Milan have scored sixteen goals in the six matches played, out of which six goals have been scored by French players. They have conceded just six in those matches.

The Rossoneri meet Lazio in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia next, before resuming their league campaign against Sampdoria on the weekend.
