Sandro Tonali shared his thoughts after Milan were held to a 1-1 draw at Atalanta for the first time in three seasons, having returned victorious and unscathed from their past two visits to Bergamo. An early goal by Ruslan Malinovskyi was canceled in the second half by Ismael Bennacer’s Robben-esque finish, as the Rossoneri earned a crucial point away from home.
The midfielder came back to playing ways for the first time since recovering from a flexor injury he sustained in a pre-season friendly against Vicenza. The Brescia youth product spoke to Milan TV (via MilanNews) following the draw. He was quizzed about whether they gained a point or lost two.
“We have all seen the performance, I don’t know if a point gained is the right definition. We did much more, we created a lot and finalized little. I’m not sure either way.”
Tonali then revealed that Milan expected Atalanta to put up a tough fight.
“Conceding early changed our plans, and we started from scratch in the second half. We played as a team and fought until the last minute.”
He finally ended with thoughts on the Rossoneri’s upcoming encounter against Bologna.
“It will be a different match. We always fight and try to do the best we can.”
Milan welcome a winless Bologna at the San Siro next weekend, with the visitors having encountered a disappointing start to the 2022/23 season – conceding red cards in both their league matches so far.
