Ukraine coach Serhiy Rebrov believes his side has everything in their power to cause an upset to Italy in their UEFA European Championship qualifier at San Siro. The Blue and Yellow have never won against Italy in a competitive match, but Rebrov maintained the trust in his troops to register a positive result.
Rebrov gave his thoughts (via Calciomercato) ahead of the highly-anticipated encounter, which will temporarily decide who grabs the second spot behind England in Group C.
“For them it’s a very important match but it’s also for us. We have to stay focused on our game, if we don’t, we will find ourselves in difficulty. Italy is a very strong team, a top team and it has never been easy to play against them. For tomorrow we must be ready and confident to achieve a positive result at San Siro.”
Italy have been trying hard to find their best form in recent matchdays, but Rebrov does not understand why the Azzurri face such criticism.
“I don’t understand why they say this, I’ve seen their game and it’s of a high level. They haven’t won but they’re still showig a very high level.”
The Azzurri already have a play-off berth to their name should they fail to qualify for Euro 2024 via the group qualifiers, but they would rather get the job done here after failing to reach the 2022 FIFA World Cup following their play-off shambles.
