Transfer Interest in Lecce Ace Hjulmand Intensifies

It is no secret of Roma’s curiosity in Lecce midfielder Morten Hjulmand, with José Mourinho in particular taking a keen interest in the Danish talent. However, Roma are far from the only club in the race to sign the 23-year-old central midfielder.

Hjulmand, who has been vital for Marco Baroni’s plans to keep Lecce afloat in the Italian top flight, is also being pursued by Juventus, Inter, and Atalanta, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via BeSoccer). Premier League clubs Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and Southampton are also reportedly in the transfer race, with the Saints’ €14M offer already being rejected in the winter transfer window by the Puglian outfit.

The Salentini expect to receive a minimum of €20M for the FC Copenhagen youth product, who just earned his first call-up by Denmark. His contract with Lecce expires in the summer of 2024.

“I can neither deny nor confirm that the greats have looked for Hjulmand. There is so much interest in him, we had to stop those clubs that approached us . Now there is the objective of salvation and we don’t want distractions from anyone,” Lecce sporting director Pantaleo Corvino (via Calciomercato.it)

Hjulmand has won hearts with his versatile style of play and relentless pressing function in the middle of the field, impressing the likes of Gian Piero Gasperini and Mourinho, who prefer to have a midfielder of his ability take charge.
