Milan Star Zlatan Ibrahimovic Poised for Swedish National Team Return

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will resume playing with Sweden five years removed from his last appearance with the national team. The Milan striker has received an advance notice that he will be called up for matches against Georgia, Kosovo and Estonia, Sky Sport and Gazzetta dello Sport reports. Players abroad are informed before the official list is issued so they can arrange the travels.

While it is still uncertain whether the star will indeed feature in the upcoming next international break because of his recent thigh injury, he is all set to take part to his fifth European Championship in the summer. He has patched things up with coach Jan Andersson, with whom he has been feuding for years, especially because he was not included in the roster for the World Cup in 2018.

The manager was also criticized by the forward in the past for not considering naturalized players and for not giving more playing to Dejan Kulusevski up until recently. “He is incompetent, people like him suffocate Swedish football,” the striker said in October of 2020. He is their all-time top scorer with 62 goals in 116 games. The Blagult will face Spain, Poland and Slovakia in the group stage of Euro 2021.

Ibrahimovic practiced partially with the rest of the group yesterday for the first time since suffering an adductor strain on March 1st. Milan hope to have him back on the pitch for Thursday’s Europa League clash with Manchester United or Sunday against Fiorentina.
