Prodigious Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga is now one step away from joining defending Serie A champions Napoli. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, only the final details are missing, but the Italians have agreed upon a principal fee with the Spaniards.
Veiga’s impending arrival from Balaidos will set Napoli back for a considerable €35 million. Given the 21-year-old’s burgeoning talent and phenomenal breakout campaign in 2022/23, his acquisition fits the category of top-notch signings.
The highly-rated youngster has been at the forefront of massive summer speculation. From Real Madrid to Liverpool, numerous elite European clubs have been linked with a move for the Celta whizz-kid. However, Napoli are on the verge of winning the race.
Despite only recently scooping up Jens Cajuste, Napoli will splash the cash for another exciting midfield prospect. Veiga has already greenlighted a five-year contract at the Diego Maradona Stadium worth €2m per year.
It’s uncertain how much freedom Veiga will have in Rudi Garcia’s set-up. While he could be a massive coup for the future, his immediate first-team opportunities will hinge on Piotr Zielinski. The Poland international could reject an approach from Saudi Arabia to ink a new long-term contract at Napoli.
