Juventus Might Have Lost Interest in Man City Misfit

Juventus have had extensive discussions concerning the acquisition of Kalvin Phillips, but they will probably move in a different direction to shore up their midfield. He’s no longer on January’s wish list, Gianluca Di Marzio informs (via OneFootball).

The Bianconeri were touted to be a likely landing spot. Manchester City reportedly don’t want to send him to a rival, either domestic or in the Champions League. On the other hand, they could offer a loan, at most, perhaps not even with an option to buy.

Moreover, Juventus and the Premier League giants would need to come to terms on how to split the wages of Phillips for the deal to be possible. Recent reports suggested Massimiliano Allegri was underwhelmed by the targets he was presented with. He’d rather add somebody with Serie A experience.

On top of the former Leeds United star, the Old Lady has been linked to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo De Paul, Lazar Samardzic, Fabian Ruiz, Youssouf Fofana, and Khephren Thuram. The ex-Napoli star recently indirectly addressed the rumors, saying he was happy in Paris.

Our Take on Juventus and Phillips

It’d be the right decision, not because of the caliber of the player, but due to his skill set, as they need somebody more offensive-minded, and the type of deal. Despite their immediate need, they should think long(ish)-term. The odds of him staying for more than six months would have been very low because of his mammoth price tag and salary.
