Tammy Abraham has been steadily improving since joining Roma, even though it took him a while to adjust to Serie A. He has been climbing the charts in a couple of statistics. While he did not have his greatest performance against Spezia, he decided the match at the buzzer by keeping his aplomb from the penalty spot.
Abraham hit the net for the 12th time in Serie A Sunday. He has already recorded the second most prolific season for an Englishman in the history of the Italian League, LaRoma24 points out. Only Inter’s Gerry Hitchens has done better, scoring 16 goals in 1961-62. The newcomer just surpassed David Platt, who stopped at 11 with Bari in 1991-1992.
The former Chelsea player has outperformed the recent Giallorossi center-forwards in their respective first seasons in the Italian Capital. Edin Dzeko had hit the net just ten times. Abraham has scored 19 times across all competitions, including Coppa Italia and the European Conference League.
He has overtaken Mohamed Salah and Marco Borriello in their maiden campaign with Roma. He is now approaching some legendary players. Gabriel Omar Batistuta and Vincenzo Montella found the target 21 times in their first year with the Giallorossi. Only Rodolfo Volk is ahead of the duo in the all-time standings. He totaled 24 goals in 1928-1929, in a different era of football since Serie A did not exist yet. Abraham will have the chance to catch up with them and reach the pinnacle in the remaining fixtures. The Giallorossi invested €40M to sign him last summer.
