Adam Marusic Adamant Bright Days Are Ahead of Lazio

Adam Marusic headed home a last-gasp winner as Lazio squeezed past fierce rivals Juventus in a relatively uneventful contest at the Stadio Olimpico. The Montenegro international returned to the scoresheet for the first time in two years to hand new manager Igor Tudor a dream touchline debut.

Lazio won their first Serie A game in the post-Maurizio Sarri era, beating relegation-battling Frosinone 3-2 on the stroke of March’s international break. But with their backs against the wall after falling off the European qualification pace, Biancocelesti desperately needed three points against Juventus.

It looked like Tudor would share the spoils in his first game in charge of Lazio when Marusic pounced on Matteo Guendouzi’s inviting cross to give his side a precious win. Speaking to the press in the post-match interview, the right-back shared his excitement after breaking his long-standing scoring drought.

It’s an important win for us. We worked well with the new coach,” the Lazio hero told DAZN, as quoted by TMW. “I scored after two years in front of our fans. I want to thank them for coming in large numbers. I hope it will be like this until the end.

Tudor couldn’t have hoped for a better start to his tenure at Lazio. But the ex-Hellas Verona manager can’t afford to celebrate much as his men face arch-rivals Roma next weekend. They will need another win in that fixture to reignite their top-five hopes as they now trail fifth-placed Giallorossi by five points.
